Our “Care for Youth with Diabetes Program” (Life for A Chid) provides care and education for children and young adults (up to 25 years) living with diabetes. Because of this program, free insulin, needles, glucose meters and test strips have been guaranteed for Rwandan youths since 2003.
Beyond our Diabetes Education Center, we organize annual diabetes camps to cultivate hope and community for youth living with Diabetes in Rwanda. The camps are one week long and are loaded with fun activities (games, art, sports, concerts, etc.) and training on best practices for diabetes management. The Rwanda Diabetes Association organized the Third Youth Diabetes camp from July 26th to August 1st, 2015. During this year’s camp hosted in Rwamagana, 101 youth living with type 1 diabetes learned to improve self-management and care in order to limit and prevent complications related to diabetes. The camp was organized in partnership with Rwanda Biomedical Center and financially supported by Insulin Zum Leben and RDA.
